Women’s Health Resources Available Online

In honor of National Women’s Health Week, this post highlights some free online resources for Women’s Health that may be of interest to researchers, clinicians and patients alike.

AHRQ Resources for Women’s Health
“AHRQ offers information to help enhance our understanding of women’s unique health needs and empower women to be more engaged in health care decisions.” See their Resources for Women’s Health for “research updates and information to help women manage diseases and conditions”.

MEDLINEPlus Women’s Health
MedlinePlus is the NIH’s database resource intended for “patients and their families and friends”. They have a Health Topic dedicated to Women’s Health since “some of the health issues that affect both men and women can affect women differently.”

ACS Women’s Health
The American Cancer Society website has a Women’s Health section where visitors can learn about many of the cancers that commonly affect women and what women can do to help protect themselves and catch cancer early. Continue reading

MSK #Nurses Shine this Spring #NationalNursesWeek

Billy Rosa, an NP in Palliative Care, was a finalist for America’s Most Amazing Nurse! Billy was one of five finalists chosen from thousands of nominees as part of The Doctors and Prevention Magazine showcasing the most extraordinary nurses that go above and beyond the call of duty. Each of the five finalists received $1,000 toward their charity of choice, and the winner will be awarded an all-expense paid trip to Iceland! The winner will be announced in the June issue of Prevention Magazine.


Kathryn Ciccolini, an RN in Dermatology, presented on March 22 at the National Comprehensive Cancer Network’s 2017 Nursing Program, in conjunction with the NCCN’s Annual Conference. Kathryn’s presentation focused on the dermatological adverse events of cancer therapies. She described the various adverse events and treatment options, and addressed patient education of these events and collaboration of care with the rest of the team.


Joaimee Cutrone, an RN in Breast Imaging, recently discussed raising awareness of male breast cancer on Oncology Nursing News. She stressed provider awareness and patient education resources as keys to improving diagnosis and treatment in males, providing gender-sensitive resources and information to these patients.

MSK Nurses were out in full force at this year’s ONS Congress, presenting 34 unique posters during the various sessions.

The MSK Library has recently added a couple of new nursing resources just in time for National Nurses Week 2017:

Nurse Practitioner Certification Examination and Practice Preparation, written by renowned certification preparation expert Dr. Margaret Fitzgerald, is a must read for anyone taking the NP exam. This resource will help develop critical thinking and test-taking skills needed for the exam. This new, 5th edition delivers the latest guidelines, recommendations, diagnostic and treatment protocols, and procedures that are critical to passing the NP boards. This resource is may be found in our eBook A-Z listing.

Advanced Practice Nursing: Essential Knowledge for the Profession is a core advanced practice text useful for both Master’s Level and DNP programs. This 3rd edition is a unique compilation of existing chapters that results in a comprehensive and well-rounded resource for the advanced practice nursing student.  This resource may be accessed from our R2 Digital Library.
