360 Link: Our New OpenURL Resolver to Access Full-text
The MSKCC Library is implementing a New Open URL to improve access to our electronic collection.
Starting on September 9th the button that you see when searching PubMed will lead to our new OpenURL resolver. Here is an example of the Citation Service Menu and Journal & eBook A-Z page that will soon be available.
You can now search journals (both online and print) and ebooks in one place through the journal & ebook A-Z page; email or export your citations and report an access issue to us from the menu screen.
360 Link will try to get you as close as it can to the full text of the article. When the article is available you will receive a link to the Full-text itself. Sometimes the best 360 Link can do is to take you to the table of contents or the journal’s home page, and you will have to navigate the publisher’s site yourself to get to the full-text. In those instances you will receive links to the Journal and/or Resource level. If there is no full-text available, you can submit a request to ILLiad Document Delivery or search the Library Catalog.
Blog Buzz: August 20 – August 29
Out on the internet this past week…
- Australian researchers say they have bred mosquitoes with a bacteria that blocks transmission of deadly Dengue fever.
- Wired Campus, a blog from the Chronicle of Higher Education, reported that several major libraries have joined a project to publish “orphaned works”.
- What Student’s Don’t Know has been making a big splash. Krafty Librarian has two thoughtful posts—the first discusses the lack of research knowledge among medical students and other users (and librarians’ and professors’ failure to recognize it). The second asks if library education should be formalized and begun earlier.
- Readers submitted photos related to Hurricane Irene to this NY Times interactive gallery.
