Three Questions – Anthony Dellureficio

Get to know Anthony Dellureficio, Associate Librarian, Data Management Services.

What areas can you help MSK users with?

Data Management Services is a new offering from the MSK Library. I’m eager to help MSK users with their data needs at all points in the research process from funding to publication and beyond. I’m available for consultation with individuals or entire labs for a wide range of support including: writing data management plans, understanding the data sharing/availability requirements of funders and publishers, providing best practices guidance (file naming/organization, format selection, storage, backup, documentation, version control, etc.), finding existing datasets, citing data for publication, and encouraging data reuse by making your data more discoverable while still providing appropriate protections for the data creators. Being that this is a new program, I’m also really interested in learning about any specific data needs or concerns of our community. Please reach out to me if you’d like to discuss

What projects have you been working on recently?

We’ve recently launched a new library resource, the MSK Data Catalog. The catalog is a searchable and browsable collection of rich metadata records acting as a way-finder designed to enhance discoverability and maximize the usefulness of datasets related to MSK research. We hope this catalog will be a valuable resource to help researchers identify data that may inform their projects, connect them with data authors and experts, and promote greater exposure and reuse of their datasets! If you’d like to learn about this project, check out our announcement as well as the about page of the catalog

What is your favorite meal? And if you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I love to travel and I love to explore new cuisines, so these two questions go hand-in-hand for me. Most recently I’ve visited Morocco, Scotland, Sicily, and the tiny Mediterranean island of Pantelleria… and I ate delicious food everywhere I went. High on my list for future cultural and culinary travel are India and Portugal. I also really hope to be able to visit Venezuela someday. And of course, I always want to get back to my home-away-from-home in the Veneto region of Italy.

Search PubMed’s Covid-19 Hub: LitCovid

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) in conjunction with the National Library of Medicine (NLM) developed an open-resource literature hub called LitCovid. This curated resource provides daily updated literature on Covid-19 across the globe. Each of the 3,200+ (as of today) articles are categorized by topic, geographic location (if one is mentioned in the abstract), and publication date (by weeks), to quickly focus results.

Literature is categorized as one (or more) of the following topics:

  • General Info – general information and news related to Covid-19
  • Mechanism – symptoms, clinical characteristics, and findings from sequence and image analysis
  • Transmission – characteristics and modes of Covid-19 transmission, such as human-to-human
  • Treatment – treatment strategies, therapeutic procedures, and vaccine development
  • Case Report – descriptions of specific patient cases
  • Epidemic Forecasting – modelling and estimating the trend of Covid-19 spread
  • Diagnosis – Methods to detect Covid-19
  • Prevention – Prevention, control, and management strategies

Within each set of results there are filters for the top 10 journals and the top 10 countries. There is also the ability to quickly identify all literature coming from a specific country, such as the United States.

The search bar at the top allows for more granular and specific searches broadly across  LitCovid as well as within any of the topics or filters.

Other features of LitCovid are the ability to export results as an RIS file to import into citation management tools (eg. EndNote), create and subscribe to an RSS feed. One feature that unfortunately has not been added yet are search alert capabilities outside of RSS feeds.

Check out the MSK Library’s frequently updated list of Covid-19 resources.

If you need more detailed assistance in finding Covid-19 literature or information, please reach out to the library.

NEW Journal Added! Mucosal Immunology

The Library now has access going back to 2008 to Mucosal Immunology. Mucosal Immunology is the official publication of the Society for Mucosal Immunology and is published by Nature Publishing Group. It aims to provide a forum for both basic and clinical scientists to discuss all aspects of immunity and inflammation involving mucosal tissues.

The Mucosal Immunology journal reflects the interests of scientists studying gastrointestinal, pulmonary, nasopharyngeal, oral, ocular and genitourinary immunology through the publication of original research articles, scholarly reviews and timely commentaries, editorials and letters. The content features basic, translational and clinical studies. Mucosal Immunology also aims to provide a primary method of communication for the SMI governing board and its members through the publication of society news and meeting and conference announcements.
