The National Institutes of Health (NIH) in conjunction with the National Library of Medicine (NLM) developed an open-resource literature hub called LitCovid. This curated resource provides daily updated literature on Covid-19 across the globe. Each of the 3,200+ (as of today) articles are categorized by topic, geographic location (if one is mentioned in the abstract), and publication date (by weeks), to quickly focus results.
Literature is categorized as one (or more) of the following topics:
- General Info – general information and news related to Covid-19
- Mechanism – symptoms, clinical characteristics, and findings from sequence and image analysis
- Transmission – characteristics and modes of Covid-19 transmission, such as human-to-human
- Treatment – treatment strategies, therapeutic procedures, and vaccine development
- Case Report – descriptions of specific patient cases
- Epidemic Forecasting – modelling and estimating the trend of Covid-19 spread
- Diagnosis – Methods to detect Covid-19
- Prevention – Prevention, control, and management strategies
Within each set of results there are filters for the top 10 journals and the top 10 countries. There is also the ability to quickly identify all literature coming from a specific country, such as the United States.
The search bar at the top allows for more granular and specific searches broadly across LitCovid as well as within any of the topics or filters.
Other features of LitCovid are the ability to export results as an RIS file to import into citation management tools (eg. EndNote), create and subscribe to an RSS feed. One feature that unfortunately has not been added yet are search alert capabilities outside of RSS feeds.
