*NEW FEATURE* MSK Data Catalog and Synapse – Stronger Together

Explore the many-to-many relationship between MSK publications and datasets with the launch of this new enhancement!

Synapse, our database of MSK authors and their publications, will now display a dynamically generated “Related Datasets” button at the top of publication records if that work has associated datasets cataloged in the MSK Data Catalog.

Likewise, any record in the MSK Data Catalog which supports publications will have links to those publications in Synapse.

As an example of the value added by this integration:

  • Consider this dataset record which identifies 3 associated publications.
  • Following the link to the first publication you find a Synapse record with a “Related Datasets” button.
  • Clicking the “Related Datasets” button searches the Data Catalog to discover 6 datasets are in support of this publication.

By exposing these relationships, we hope to highlight the value of data as a research output and emphasize a broader perspective on MSK research.

If you would like to see your datasets included in the MSK Data Catalog or have any questions about how the MSK Library is contributing to the development of data as a component of Scholarly Communication, please Ask Us!

New MSK Resource – Data Policy Finder: Search. Verify. Plan.

Getting ready to publish your research? Still in the early stages of research but already thinking about where you will publish? About to undertake research and thinking ahead?

Navigating publication requirements for data, code, and other supporting research output can be tricky, but the Library is here to help!

The MSK Library has launched a new homegrown resource, the Data Policy Finder.

The Data Policy Finder is a searchable database containing information and links for data, code, and materials policies. Search for data sharing and management policies by publisher or publication. Library staff review the policies and curate the database with links, direct quotes from the relevant sections of the policies, and notes to help you search, verify, and plan for your publication data requirements.

For any questions regarding this new resource or to schedule a demo, please reach out to Anthony Dellureficio, Associate Librarian, Research Data Management.

Love Data Year Round

Love Data Week (February 14-18) is an important reminder of the role that data creation and management play in research. It’s a week where we collectively recognize the value of datasets, code, analytical tools, and all the people who engage with data to provide informational support for science.

Of course, like many of you in the MSK community, the Library loves data all year round! For the past few years, we have been developing a Research Data Management program which has focused on developing services and applications to integrate with researchers’ workflows, lower administrative burdens, and encourage partnerships to support researchers throughout the life of their experiments, from planning to publication, and beyond.

Recently ResearchDataQ, a digital platform from the Association of College and Research Libraries Digital Scholarship Section, published an editorial profile written by the Associate Librarian for Data Management Services and the Library Director at MSK about the origin of our program, our new service and application initiatives, and our roadmap for future development. Read more here.

So, if you are interested in learning more about any of our initiatives, especially if you love data the same way we do, then send us an email, sign up for a class, request some one-on-one time with a data librarian, or ask us to set up a personalized data session for your lab. We hope you’ll take some time to love data, this week and throughout the year!
