  • Researchers at the University of Twente have developed a 3D-printed robot designed to take biopsies in an MRI scanner.
  • The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently announced its new director. Brenda Fitzgerald has been selected to lead the agency. Dr. Fitzgerald will succeed acting director Dr. Anne Schuchat, who took over when Dr. Tom Frieden resigned from the post in January.
  • Funded by Marie Curie and Dimbleby Cancer Care, researchers from the University of Southampton, Cardiff University and University of Leeds have developed a nurse-led intervention to help carers with medication management. For more, see article in Palliative Medicine.
  • Researchers in Japan have developed a new method to image cancer at the single cell-level by using chemical techniques to make whole mouse bodies and organs highly transparent. Discussion found in Cell Reports.

A recent meeting of researchers at The National Cancer Institute (NCI) detailed updates on the Exceptional Responders Initiative, a program created to gain insights into the emerging field of exceptional responders in cancer (patients who have a major and long-lasting response to treatments that were not nearly as effective for similar patients). The NCI has just written up a summary of the developing pilot study.

Dr. Craig Thompson received a well-deserved honor last month, when he was rated as Glassdoor’s #1 highest employee-rated health system CEO for 2017, taking the #4 slot among all industries. Glassdoor’s annual Employee’s Choice Awards, lists the 100 highest-rated CEOs across the country. These awards are based on voluntary feedback from employees through anonymous reviews of their company’s leadership, job satisfaction, and work environment over the past year. According to Glassdoor’s analyses, high rated CEOs are correlated to companies with great cultures. Keep up the good work MSK!
