Three Questions – Ryan

This month, I asked three questions to Ryan McComas,

What areas can you help MSK users with?
I primarily work with our print and electronic collection, meaning I am responsible for access to databases, books, and journals. I am available to take any new resource recommendations, catalog new acquisitions to make them discoverable in our catalog, and to help our users with any access problems they have with library content.

What projects have you been working on recently?
MSK library recently migrated all our records to a new library management system called Alma/Primo and its new discovery and access tool, OneSearch. This next generation system is customized to allow MSK library staff to manage patron and catalog records, circulate materials to users, and produce usage statistics for analyzing our collection. In addition, my new summer project will consist of analyzing and weeding our entire print collection to make room for newer library acquisitions.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I actually enjoy vacationing to cold weather places, so my ultimate experience would be travelling to and around the Antarctic peninsula via Patagonia. Maybe not realistic, but hopefully someday!

Three Questions – Lindsay

This month, I asked three questions to Lindsay Boyce, Research Informationist.

What areas can you help MSK users with?
As a Research Informationist, I am able to assist users with a variety of information needs. I conduct literature searches for both patient care and research questions, I provide assistance with EndNote and other citation management tools, and I work with systematic review teams create comprehensive search strategies. I am also the Clinical Medical Librarian for Critical Care, where I provide a variety of services to the staff in the ICU.

What projects have you been working on recently?
I recently co-authored a book chapter with our director and another Research Informationist on the Role of Informationists in Evidence Based Practice, where we detailed how we provide support and assistance for the nursing community as they conduct evidence based practice research. Nurses can use our PICO(T) form to request literature searches to aide in their EBP projects.

What is your favorite meal?
I’m a bit of a foodie, so picking a single favorite meal is tough. But I think the best meal I ever had was Lobster Newburg at Delmonico’s Steakhouse, because not only did Delmonico’s invent the dish in 1876, eating it at the oldest “restaurant” in the US makes it both a historical and culinary experience!

Three Questions for our Librarians – Mark

This month, I asked three questions to Mark Monakey, Associate Librarian, Content Management.

What areas can you help MSK users with?
In my position as Associate Librarian, Content Management, one of my main responsibilities is to acquire new materials for the MSK Library. This includes books, journals, and databases. We often receive recommendations directly from MSK users on what resources we should add to our collection. My team works with users to ensure that their input has been received and considered, that we purchase/license materials from the best source, that our accounts are paid in full, that the resource is accessible from our catalog, and that our budget is balanced.

What projects have you been working on recently?
In conjunction with our Tri-Cat partners, Weill Cornell Library and Rockefeller University Library, we recently completed a full data migration from Innovative Interfaces Inc.’s Millennium integrated library system (i.e. the Tri-Cat catalog) to Alma/Primo (i.e. OneSearch), Ex Libris’ next-generation library management solution and discovery and delivery solution. The new Alma/Primo system includes essential cataloging, patron record management, and circulation features, as well as integrated digital content management, and a statistics analysis tool that can generate customized reports regarding our collection.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I would travel to South Korea with my family – we would start off in Seoul then travel to JeJu Island, and then end our vacation in Busan.
