For those of you participating in the 23 Things MSK Challenge, we hope you were able to successfully complete the tasks for this month. If you had any trouble, the solutions are posted below.

Thing 9

Here are the instructions for the Trip database task:

1. Go to the Trip database and click on the PICO search box.
2. Enter the following PICO search:
P – hospital acquired infection
I  – hand washing
C – leave field blank
O – reduced infection
3. You should retrieve 5 targeted results.

Thing 10

Here are the instructions for the Google Scholar task:

1. Go to Google Scholar and enter the search: compassion fatigue and oncology nurses
2. If you see “Interventions to manage compassion fatigue in oncology nursing” by N Aycock, click on the Fulltext@MSK link to the right.
3. Then, click on the link Save to save the citation to your library (underneath the quotation from the article).
4. You can then access the link My library at the left of the page.
5. Finally, click on the link Cite underneath the citation you wish to share with a librarian.
6. Cut and paste the citation in APA format into an email to your librarian. It should look something like this: Aycock, N., & Boyle, D. (2009). Interventions to manage compassion fatigue in oncology nursing. Clinical journal of oncology nursing, 13(2), 183-191.

Enter PubMed Through the Library Website for Full Text Access

When looking for an article, the best practice is to look for it through the MSK Library website. The blue Fulltext@MSK button makes it easy to locate an article, whether it is part of our collection or something that needs to be requested via ILLiad Document Delivery.

When searching PubMed, click on the PubMed search tab (above the Search button) on the Library website, and enter your search. The results will then include a Fulltext@MSK button for every result. When you click on the button, you either get a link to the Fulltext, or a link to request the article via ILLiad Document Delivery.

For further information about finding and accessing articles, please visit our Full Text LibGuide or contact Reference at 212-639-7439 or asklibrarian@mskcc.org.
