Library Sponsored Classes at IT EXPO 2017

MSK’S IT EXPO 2017 will be October 30 and 31. Among this year’s training options for staff, the MSK Library will be offering the following four classes:

  1. Analyzing and Visualizing Research Impact
    (Tuesday, October 31 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, RRL-102)

Instructor:  Antonio DeRosa

Course Description: Learn which resources to leverage for analyzing and visualizing the impact of a researcher’s work, specifically focusing on published papers indexed in major databases (Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, Synapse). Also become familiar with why you might want to think about visualizing and understanding published data for the purposes of promotion, presentation, publishing, and general understanding of a researcher’s impact on academia or society and the scientific community.

  1. Searching PubMed Effectively
    (Monday, October 30 from 11:00 am to Noon, RRL-102)

Instructor: Marisol Hernandez

Course Description: This workshop will help you gain knowledge to effectively search PubMed utilizing keywords and the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). Also covered are the built-in filter options, as well as, accessing full-text articles from the MSK Library’s ejournal collection.

  1. Evaluating Scholarly Journals
    (Monday, October 30 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, RRL-102)

Instructor: Konstantina (Dina) Matsoukas

Course Description: Come to this workshop to find out about the library and information resources that can help you evaluate a journal by considering such criteria as: peer-review status, journal impact factors and rankings, indexing & abstracting, open-access versus traditional publishing models, author submission fees, copyright transfer options & permissions for re-use, and other journal policies & requirements that you should think about when deciding on where to submit your research manuscript for publication.

  1. Finding Full Text
    (Monday, October 30 from Noon to 1:00 pm, RRL-102)

Instructor: Christine Beardsley

Course Description: This session will help users navigate the various options for finding full-text articles from the Library website and other sites. The intended audience for this workshop is administrative support professionals and new hires interested in learning more about available resources for retrieving full-text publications.
