Here are the instructions for the PubMed phrase searching task:
- First, go to the PubMed tab on the MSK Library website.
- Click on the yellow PubMed link beneath the search box.
- Click on the Advanced link below the search box in PubMed.
- Once in the Search Builder, select Text Word from the first drop down menu that says All Fields.
- Enter kidney allograft (or your selected phrase) in the search box next to Text Word.
- Before clicking on the Search button, click on Show index list (to the right of the phrase you just inputted) and look to see if your phrase appears in the list.
- If you find your phrase, click on it and then click the Search button to get your results.
- Compare the results returned to what happens when you just enter kidney allograft in the regular PubMed search box.
By using the Text Word index, the results will be targeted towards finding the exact phrase you are searching for as the terms entered will be forced to appear next to each other in the resulting citations.
