Blog Buzz: June 10 – June 21
- Our colleagues at Taubman Health Sciences Library have written a great overview of the new Altmetrics in Scopus. Complete with screenshots and clarifications from Elsevier reps, it is a nice tour if you haven’t had a chance to dig in yourself yet. They also mentioned the new ALM (Article Level Metrics) Reports at PLoS, who are encouraging users (funders, researchers, and librarians) to give them feedback on the new reports and tools.
- There is a new report from the Pew Internet & American Life Project on family caregivers (now 39% of adults) and their use of technology. Caregivers are much more likely than others to search for certain types of information online.
Cancer Research News: June 5 – June 18
- MD Anderson Cancer Center and Cooper University Health Care have announced that they are opening a combined cancer center in October on the Cooper Health Sciences Campus in Camden, NJ.
- MSKCC’s Dr. Charles L. Sawyers and Dr. Brian Druker have been awarded the 2013 Taubman Prize for Excellence in Translational Medicine Science in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia.
- Canadian researchers have revealed their results of MRIs that demonstrate changes in the heart muscle of children due to chemotherapy.
- Fibrous dysplasia has been discovered in an 120,000+ Year Old Neanderthal from Croatia.
