A New Jersey Purchase, Upcoming AMR2015 Conference, and More

• In an online July 9 article, NJBIZ.com highlights the purchase of a Montvale, New Jersey property by an affiliate of MSK for $37 million. Per the article, the 142,500-square-foot office building would be MSK’s third cancer center in New Jersey, and the seventh outside New York City.

• The Advances in Meditation Research (AMR) conference series has scheduled its biennial conference, AMR2015, for September 24 – September 25, at MSK’s Zuckerman Research Center. MSK conference speakers include Dr. Gary Deng, Dr. Mahiuddin Ahmed, and Dr. Sonia Sequeira.

• The non-profit organization, American Italian Cancer Foundation (AICF), co-funded a new study for MSK’s Dr. Andrea Ventura.

Three Powerful Videos, Basket Trials, and More

• In an online June 30 article, Adweek highlights three powerful videos that tell inspirational, very personal cancer stories. At the end of each video story, the line “science saves more than lives” appears on the screen, “underscoring that MSK’s expertise played a key role in allowing the subjects to realize their post-cancer dreams and aspirations.”

• A recent article on myCentralJersey.com presents information on basket trials at MSK’s Basking Ridge center. A basket trial “focuses on a specific mutation that may be found in cancers that originate in different parts of the body”. There are currently six basket trials underway at MSK, with the first one launched in 2012.

• Dr. Lee Jones, PhD, exercise scientist at MSK, and Cara Anselmo, MS, RDN, registered dietician and nutritionist at MSK, are featured in an upcoming live web chat, “Exercise and Good Nutrition During and After Cancer Treatment: Your Questions Answered!”. The web chat is scheduled for August 4, 6:30-7:30 PM EST, on CancerConnect.

By the Abstracts – MSK Authors at the 2015 ASCO Meeting

The American Society of Clinical Oncology meeting this year had close to 6,000 abstracts submitted for review, with 4,882 abstracts published in conjunction with this conference. Of these abstracts 2,392 were presented onsite during the poster discussion, oral abstract, and poster sessions. Details can be found on the ASCO website.

Memorial Sloan Kettering contributed 296 abstracts which represents an increase of approximately 15% from last year’s total abstract count. Also last year, there were 7 MSK authors that published 10 or more abstracts. This year there were 12 MSK authors that published 10 or more abstracts: C.A. Hudis (18), M.F. Berger (15), D.M. Hyman (15), M.G. Kris (15), R.J. Motzer (13), M.E. Arcila (12), L.B. Saltz (11), M. Ladanyi (10), H.I. Scher (10), D.B. Solit (10), M.H. Voss (10), and J.D. Wolchok (10). The top three categories (as determined by ASCO) were Genitourinary (Nonprostate) Cancer (26), Gastrointestinal (Noncolorectal) Cancer (21), and Lung Cancer-Non-Small Cell Metastatic (21). The abstracts include three on the historic IBM Watson Oncology application being implemented at MSK.
