Funding Opportunity from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

There’s still a few days left to submit your letter of intent for the Translational Research Program (TRP) offered by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Applications are sought proposing novel approaches to the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Proposals should be based on molecular, cellular or integrated systems findings and be conceptually innovative. The program is intended to cover an initial three year period (with two year renewal) and will provide support for work which is clinical in orientation with an overall goal to result in a clinical trial and/or TRP renewal.

Letters of intent are due by 3:00 pm on February 17, 2015. For more information, see the TRP Guidelines & Instructions for fiscal year 2015.

Scholarships for Nursing Students

There’s still time to apply for one of the following funding opportunities. Geared towards graduate and undergraduate students, they’re great resources for beginning professionals!

The application deadline for each is February 1, 2015.

  • Graduate Scholarship in Cancer Nursing Practice
The American Cancer Society offers this award to support graduate students pursuing a master’s degree in cancer nursing or a doctorate of nursing practice (DNP).
  • ONS Foundation Academic Scholarship
The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Foundation awards scholarships to students (bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral) and practitioners committed to oncology nursing.
  • NEF Scholarship
The Nurses Education Funds (NEF) seeks and distributes funds to baccalaureate-prepared registered nurses who are in need of scholarship assistance for graduate study.

Requirement Date Extended for New NIH Biosketch Format

Last month, the NIH announced that applicants must use the new, modified biosketch format for research grants due on or after January 25, 2015. However, a new announcement was published on Friday, allowing for a 4-month extension to ease in the transition. Applicants are encouraged to start using the new format right away but will only be required to do so for applications with due dates on or after May 25, 2015.

The biosketch format was revised in order expand the focus from publications to the scientific advances associated with the researcher’s discoveries and the specific role the researcher played in those findings.

For more information and the results of a pilot survey that was conducted earlier this year, see Sally Rockey’s blog post on Implementing the Modified NIH Biosketch Format.
