The Grants Process: The Lifecycle of a Grant

The NCI grants process was designed to ensure that applications proposing the most promising scientific research projects are evaluated and awarded, and that the proposed scientific aims are completed.

See the NCI Grants Process for a quick overview as well as an in-depth look at the 6-step application process, NCI’s research funding mechanisms, the Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR) and the administrative requirements for grant closing.

Up for a Challenge? Stimulating Innovation in Breast Cancer Genetic Epidemiology

The NCI’s Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS) has launched a challenge to inspire novel cross-disciplinary approaches to more fully decipher the genomic basis of breast cancer. The goal is to use innovative approaches to identify novel pathways involved in breast cancer susceptibility in order to generate new biological hypotheses. GWAS data sets will be made available and challenge participants may use any other publicly available data sets for the purposes of developing and applying methods for identification of the novel pathways.

For more information about the challenge’s goals, application, rules and due dates, visit the U4C website. A webinar will also be held on July 23rd from 1-2pm (ET) – register at Everything You Need to Know About NCI’s Up for a Challenge.

NCI Provocative Questions Initiative

NCIThe June 29th deadline is fast approaching but there’s still time to apply for this unique and important funding opportunity!

The Provocative Questions Initiative supports research projects designed to solve specific problems and paradoxes in oncology, thereby stimulating areas of cancer research that are understudied, neglected, paradoxical, and/or have been difficult to address in the past. For fiscal years 2016 and 2017, the NCI intends to commit $15 million per year to fund 30-40 R01 awards and $5 million per year to fund 15-20 R21 awards.

The NCI has identified 12 questions that you can choose from. You can also submit your ideas for additional questions via the Community Dialog.
