As it is National Handwashing Awareness Week (Dec.4-10) we would like to introduce to you Henry the Hand. If you’re not familiar with this yellow, 5-digit fellow, get ready because he is climbing his way to superstardom in the fight for infection prevention!
The Henry the Hand Foundation educates and raises awareness for proper handwashing in schools, at home, and in the healthcare sector. Henry the Hand promotes 4 principles of hand awareness through this website, toolkits, videos, and custom-designed programs. They are as follows:
- Wash your hands when they are dirty and BEFORE eating
- DO NOT cough into your hands
- DO NOT sneeze into your hands
- Above all, DO NOT put your fingers into your eyes, nose or mouth
These principles have been endorsed by the AMA (American Medical Association) and AAFP (American Academy of Family Physicians). The Henry the Hand Foundation has also partnered with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to develop trusted programs and reputable information about infection control and prevention.
