Searching both captions and articles for keywords, SpringerImages is the premier source for scientific image searching. The database currently has 2.8 million images in its library and spans the scientific, technical and medical fields. Springer’s searchable database for images also contains charts, tables, graphs, and histograms. This content is easily exported for use in presentations and lectures. Concerned about copyright? No worries, SpringerImages provides the copyright information for each image at the bottom of the screen when you click on a figure. This way the source of the image is clear and attainable. By registering and logging into SpringerImages, you can save sets of images as well as specific searches. You can choose to search only the captions of images or the full-text for a broader list of images when performing a search. The database allows for immediate linking between the image and its source article as well. There is also a scientific and health-related subject list down the lefthand side of the database for perusing of images instead of targeting a certain concept with a straightforward search.
SpringerImages has a section of content devoted specifically to Cancer Research as well. This category contains about 63,000 images to choose from. The sorting option makes it easy to browse. Relevency, newest, and oldest are the options available in SpringerImages. To build an image set, you need only drag an image to the lefthand box labeled “Image Set 1.” From here you can rename sets, alter sets, or add/delete sets. This feature is available only after you register and login to the database. Your My Images link (at the top of the website) will display your image sets and saved search strategies.
There is also a mobile app for SpringerImages available for the iPhone. Visit the MSK Library Selected Mobile Resources LibGuide for more information and details on downloading this app to your device.
