Since Google Reader will be closing up shop on July 1, 2013, users should think about migrating their RSS feeds to another service provider before it’s too late! To help you make the transition to a new RSS feed reader (and to not weep too much during the process), here is a list of alternative resources for managing your news sources.
Another helpful tip is that you can retain your Reader data, including subscriptions through Google Takeout.
Feedly – Offers an iOS and Android application as well as a Chrome, Safari, and Firefox extension. Click here for more information.
NewsRack – Compatible with Mac OS and iOS platforms only. Allows users to edit RSS feed lists within the app and see the change on their Mac desktop version. Able to sync Google Reader feeds for a seamless migration.
Flipboard – Allows users to set RSS feeds from their favorite news sources and view them in a way that’s familiar to them (e.g. digital magazine design). For iOS and Android only.
Pulse – Delivers RSS news feed headlines in a nice mosaic for easy browsing and navigation. Available on your desktop, iOS, Android, Kindle Fire, and Nook platforms.
Bloglines – A comparable alternative to Google Reader with multiple view options for an optimal customized experience. See these instructions on moving Google Reader feeds to Bloglines seamlessly.
NewsBlur – Has a polished interface that’s very similar to that of Google Reader. Ideal for those looking for a visually similar RSS feed reader.
