Do You Know the Key Services Your Library Provides?

The Pew Research Center recently released a report on Americans’ thoughts on how well they believe their local libraries serve their users and how library users excel over others in learning activities. Interestingly, these same users are not all aware of important educational services their libraries provide. This begs the question, are you aware of the key services the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Medical Library provides to you?

The Pew Research study details the declining use of American libraries, possibly due to technological changes and advances. At the same time, usage of library websites has leveled off in recent years, instead of decline.

The report also shows that people who use libraries and their digital materials are better educated, consider themselves lifelong learners, are more interested in new information, and utilize technology more than those who do not. Despite this, many users seem unaware of learning programs or materials a public library offers such as e-book borrowing.

While the MSK Library doesn’t offer all the same resources as a public library, the message is the same – many of our users are unaware of everything the library can do for the MSK community. The MSK Library offers various services important for research, education and patient care. These include fostering peer-to-peer learning and 3D model creation with our Makerspace, providing complex research assistance and embedding our research Informationists for customized research assistance with your clinical team, supporting authors and their research by improving discoverability of their work with ORCID@MSK, and providing various LibGuides with resources for research, patient care, and education. Our numerous other services can be found in our library brochure. The MSK Library is here for all your digital research needs.
