Resource Highlights: Bioethics Research Library

Bioethics is an interdisciplinary field and its resources can be scattered. The Bioethics Research Library at Georgetown University (GU) brings them together through its online databases, many containing links to full text and audiovisuals. One way to explore the site is by topic. Another way is to use the “one-click” search for Health Care Professionals.

The site also includes several unique databases. One is GenETHX, specializing in literature on the ethical, legal, and social implications of genetic and genomic research. GenETHX includes citations to newspapers, books, bills, laws, court decisions, reports, and audiovisuals. There’s also a GenETHX blog.

Another is the DNA Patents database, containing a collection of DNA-based patents and patent applications issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office and available at no cost in full-text.

The International Bioethics Organization Database is searchable by country and topic.

For educators, there’s a Syllabus Exchange. The collection contains over 100 syllabi that relate to ethics and genetics and can be limited by focus to nursing or medicine.

These are only a few of the resources available through this site.

MSK staff can request many of the materials through ILLIAD if they are not available on the GU site.
