Use the MeSH Browser When Constructing PubMed Search Strategies

If you are constructing a strategy for a PubMed search and you want to carry the search back to previous years, the MeSH Browser can help you find the previous terminology for a current MeSH heading.

For example, if you wish to run a search relating to the Internet (which is a current MeSH heading) and you want to search back to 1996, go to the MeSH Browser.  Type “Internet” into the search box and click on the “Find Exact Term” link in the middle of the page on the left-hand side.  This will bring you to the MeSH Browser page for Internet.   Look for the “Previous Indexing” entry: “COMPUTER COMMUNICATION NETWORKS (1996 – 1998).”  You must use this MeSH term to retrieve articles relating to Internet for those years.
