Resource Highlights: RefWorks 2.0

We’ve blogged about RefWorks in the past and we feel it’s time to officially roll out the welcome mat: introducing RefWorks 2.0. To get to RefWorks 2.0 you need only login to RefWorks normally and then click on the RefWorks 2.0 link in the upper right-hand corner of your screen. This new RefWorks interface is easier to use and organized more logically than the Classic view. When viewing imported (or manually entered) citations as a list, you can easy toggle between your references and folders you have created by utilizing the tabs provided. These tabs make it easier for you to place references in specific folders, or create a new folder without having to go elsewhere to do so. The “New Folder” button is on each page in RefWorks 2.0 as well.

Executing tasks in the new interface looks a little different. When creating a bibliography or searching your RefWorks references, a box appears on your screen where you can perform the task. In Classic RefWorks, the bibliography or search features replace your existing page when you click on these options. This movable box in RefWorks 2.0 allows you to view your references while performing a task, in case you need to refer back to them in the process. Like that of the Classic view, the 2.0 has buttons spanning the top of the database for easy findability and navigation. Also, your references are easier to read and peruse through in RefWorks 2.0. There is more space between references and it is clear to see which action links (i.e. FullText@MSK buttons) correspond with which articles. RefWorks Classic lists your references in a condensed format with little white space between citations, making it more difficult to read through them.
