  • A group of scientists from the University of Washington’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, MSK, Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, and Stanford University’s School of Medicine have come together to devise a microscope that can see cell detail without having to extract it from a patient’s body. Details can be found in their study.

A New Year With New Goals!

Happy New Year to our User Community, and our Library Blog readers! The start of a new year is often a time to reflect on past achievements, make resolutions, and definitely establish new goals. Last year was extremely productive for the library staff. We accomplished our objectives while still delivering on research and information requests in a timely manner, ensuring our clients had a positive experience – one that they wanted to repeat (and did).

As always, our 2016 goals focus on our user community, support the mission of our institution, and ensure that the resources and services we offer enhance and contribute to work productivity. Among them, I would like to highlight the following three: Continue reading

Phenotypic Drug Discovery, Moonshot, Partnership, and Publications

  • The Phenotypic and Biomarker-based Drug Discovery symposium, presented by The New York Academy of Sciences’ Biochemical Pharmacology Discussion Group on October 27, 2015, featured current work in phenotypic drug discovery and highlighted the need to bridge commercial and academic research to improve phenotypic drug design.  Read an overview of the event published on January 12. Several individuals helped to organize this meeting including Ralph Garippa, RNAi Core Head from MSK.
  • The Moonshot Initiative announced by President Barack Obama is drawing tremendous support. Dr. Baselga, Physician-in-Chief and Chief Medical Officer at MSK is quoted. Listen to Vice-President Joe Biden as he speaks to international leaders in cancer research, cancer treatment and data science to discuss potential opportunities to advance the pace of progress in the fight against cancer.
