The New York Online Access to Health (NOAH) is the premier resource for consumer-geared health information in New York, covering extensively New York City and extending to the Tri-State area. The web site is available completely in both English and Spanish.
NOAH is broken down into two major parts, Health Topics and A-Z Index. The Health Topics page allows for retreival of information by subject browsing. These health topics are grouped by concept and further broken down into subgroups. The Health Topics page forms something of a “tree” model of displaying information, eliminating confusion users may encounter when accessing health information.
The A-Z Index allows users to browse health conditions alphabetically. This list of health issues not only includes technical terms of conditions (for those users that know the name of their desired condition), but it also covers health topics in lay terms, allowing novice health researchers to target their search accurately.
This is a useful tool to recommend to patients and families in regard to trusted, New York-specific health information compiled by librarians and health professionals here in New York and beyond.
