Researchers at MSK and WCMC suggest that having the right balance of gut microbia affects the immune system in such a way that it reduces the amount of brain damage after a stroke. The Eric Pamer Lab along with the lab of Josef Anrather, use a mouse model to demonstrate that altering the intestinal flora changed the immune system, which subsequently impacted how the brain responded to stroke.
