UPDATE: ORCID@MSK is live as of March 1, 2016.
Synapse has a bold new look but is still your connection to MSK authors and publications. If you haven’t already, take a look at the site’s new features which allow you to:
- Link from author profiles to ORCID records
- Export works to NCBI’s My Bibliography (via PubMed)
- Search works by the date ingested into Synapse
Some of these features are the direct result of requests from users like you so if there’s something you’d like to see in Synapse, let us know! Continue reading for more details about the new features as well as Synapse’s role in the library’s upcoming ORCID@MSK service.
Link From Author Profiles to ORCID Records
If you have an ORCID iD, which publishers are starting to require for manuscript submissions, we’ll add it to your Synapse profile which will help eliminate name ambiguity and improve the discoverability of your research:
Register for an ORCID iD at orcid.org or wait and use the library’s ORCID@MSK service which will be launching very soon. More details below!
Export Works to NCBI’s My Bibliography (via PubMed)
You can still create on-screen bibliographies (NLM style recommended) and export works to EndNote (RIS) but you can now also export works to NCBI’s My Bibliography, a useful tool for monitoring your compliance with the NIH Public Access Policy:
Click the Export to “PubMed” link from a Synapse author’s list of works and all available PMID’s will be saved to your computer in a text file. Upload the text file to PubMed using Batch Entrez:
From the resulting PubMed list, click the “Send to” link and select “My Bibliography” to add the works to your bibliography (you may need to sign in):
Search Works by the Date Ingested into Synapse
If you’d like to see what’s been recently added to Synapse or need to track the progress of a group or author, you can perform an Advanced Search on “Import Date,” the date that works were ingested into Synapse. For example, the following search will find works that were added to Synapse during the month of January 2016:
Note that your search may retrieve retrospective works as we continue adding content dating back to 1884! We’re currently in the process of adding works published in the year 2000.
Upcoming ORCID@MSK Service
The library will be launching a new service that will not only allow you to create an ORCID iD but to register it with the MSK Library so that you can upload Synapse works to your ORCID record. For more information about ORCID and the benefits of obtaining an iD, see our recent blog post, ORCID@MSK – New Library Service Supporting Researchers’ Scholarly Workflow:
Since Synapse is continually adding new content, you’ll be able to visit ORCID@MSK at any time so that you can synchronize your works.
