Cancer research and treatment news:
- The New York Times reported the dramatic results of the clinical trial of PLX4032 for advanced melanoma.
- Time magazine reported on an MD Anderson study showing evidence that preventive mastectomy can increase chances of survival in a subset of breast cancer patients. (study PMID: 20185801)
- HealthDay reported on a Japanese study that found that removal of lymph nodes may boost survival chances of women at medium to high risk for endometrial cancer recurrence. (study PMID: 20188410)
- HealthDay also reported on a study demonstrating that bitter melon extract killed breast cancer cells but not healthy cells in animal studies. (study PMID: 20179194)
- ScienceDaily discussed a new study about garlic’s anticancer effects. While the mechanism is still unclear, garlic consumption is associated with lower levels of nitrosamines, a class of known carcinogens, in human urine. (study PMID: 19643074)
